Passed Pawns of the Board (Young Intermediate)
Overview: This class is for young players who know how the pieces move, castling, how to check/checkmate, and other basic concepts of the game.The Chess-Steps curriculum is used to teach these young players in a group setting.
Suggested age range: Kindergarten to 2nd grade
Meeting times: 4-5 Thursdays a month from 6:30 - 7:30 PM, first class on September 5th.
Fees:
- A maximum of 8 players can be accommodated in this class.
- Program fees are $80/monthly per player, assuming 4 days a month.
Curriculum:
- Workbooks from chess-steps.com, players have completed earlier workbooks for young players and are beginning the Step 1 workbook. See infographic for description of later curriculum.
Addendum:
- For families who will be missing 2+ club meetings in a month (not just one) and send 2 days advance notice to hello[at]wayoftheboard.org, fees will be refunded on a prorated basis ($40 for 2 days, $60 for 3 days, $80 for 4 days). Note that fees are not refunded for single day absences.
- When the instructor is not able to hold a class due to illness, a family schedule conflict, public holidays, etc., fees will be prorated accordingly.
- Club membership can be discontinued at any time by sending an email to hello@wayoftheboard.org, and a prorated refund for that month will be issued accordingly.
- First visit is free and families can visit a class to see whether it a good fit for their chess playing child. However it is advisable to send an email in advance to ensure there is capacity for visitors and for the instructor to advise which class is likely the most appropriate.
