Knights of the Board (Intermediate)

Overview: This group class assumes players already have familiarity with basic gameplay, rules of chess such as en passant and castling, can read and write notation (ie 1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 Nc6 3. Qxe5+). Players who have completed Step 1 Plus in a prior class or have equivalent familiarity with the game will continue to progress their learning in this class.

Suggested age range: 3rd grade to 8th grade, although younger players may be considered after an assessment.

Meeting times: 4-5 Saturdays a month from 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM, first class on August 30th.

Fees:

• As there are a maximum of 12 players that can be accommodated in this class, pre-enrollment will be disabled once classes reaches full capacity. Parents can email hello[at]wayoftheboard.org to add their child to waiting list until a seat is available.
• Program fees are $80/monthly per player, assuming 4 Saturdays a month. When there are 5 Saturdays in a month, parents will be invoiced $20 separately for the 5th Saturday.
• Monthly club membership fees can be submitted after September 1st, subsequent months are $80/monthly/per player and is auto-charged to credit card on file.

Curriculum:

• Workbooks from chess-steps.com, beginning with Step 2. See infographic for description of later curriculum. Workbook progression is Step 2, Step 2 Extra, Step 2 Plus, and Step 2 Mixed. Players typically take 1 year to finish 2 or 3 workbooks.

Addendum:

- Club membership can be discontinued at any time by sending an email to hello[at]wayoftheboard.org, and a prorated refund for that month will be issued accordingly.

- First visit is free and families can visit a class to see whether it a good fit for their chess playing child. However it is advisable to send an email in advance to ensure there is capacity for visitors and for the instructor to advise which class is likely the most appropriate.

- To encourage tournament participation, parents who send a photo of their scholastic player at the tournament to hello[at]wayoftheboard.org with permission to post to club Facebook page will be refunded the $20 club fee if event time overlaps with the Saturday morning class.
